Perth Central Area Transit’s (CAT)

The Central Area Transit (CAT) system is a free bus service that operates around central Perth, Perth CAT Live Times.

The Western Australian State Government chose local company TerraVision to provide a Public Information System to track the CAT buses and provide real-time information to the public at bus stops and on the buses.

GPS positional information is transmitted from each CAT bus via a radio network to the central control room. ETA data of the next bus due at each bus stop is calculated and then transmitted from the central control room to each bus stop every 30 seconds. The bus stops themselves contain a digital readout and a button-activated audio announcer that tells you when the next bus is due. Furthermore current and next stop information is displayed on each bus together with automated voice announcements.

The positional information is also graphically displayed on a WEB page made available to the public.

Perth Airport Car Park Services

A similar service to the CAT bus was introduced at the Perth Airport Long Car Park 8 years ago, and has been recently upgraded to include the Inter-Terminal Bus routes. The scrolling, red LED signage has been well received by Passengers.

TerraVision have provided an interface to Perth Airport server facility, so that bus positional information and ETA bus arrival times are available within the airport internal networks.
